Frugal or Tacky?

Check out this site, "Help me Pay for My Wedding". This self-proclaimed "recessionista bride" is asking for donations for her upcoming nuptials.

I posted an article last week on how a bride bartered for her dream wedding. I think it's one thing to exchange goods or services and another to ask for a straight out 'donation.' Weddings can hardly be categorized as 'charities' or 'good causes.' This bride seems to missing the big picture here, non? Wonder what The Broke-Ass Bride, A $10,000 Wedding, A Practical Wedding, and Budget Savvy Bride (brides who have shared their clever ways of keeping wedding costs down) would say?

Would you donate? Is this bride being clever in her frugality? Or is she simply a clueless and tacky bride? Discuss.

I think it is rude. But in the anonymity of internet land, it's easy to do something like this.

Of course, they can ask for whatever they like. But that doesn't mean I'd give a cent to them.

Let me name some things that do need money:
-The Cancer Society-The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation-The Heart & Stroke Foundation-Any charity that supports research for any disease: MS, CP, diabetes, mental health diseases, and so on
-Any food bank
-Any mission outbreak for homeless people or at risk youth
-Any humane sociey or SPCA or the WWF-UNICEF-Literacy promoting agencies-Agencies addressing poverty-And so on

If you want to give someone money give to any/all of the above charities, or any other worthy charity.

wow, i'm glad this bride is "debt free" but does not wanting to be in debt give you the right to ask other people for money? the last time i checked we were in a recession and if you can't afford to get married, maybe you should wait... (anyone who's creative can afford to get married on a small budget). i'm w/krista- if you have extra money to give there are SOOO many organizations to donate to!

i'm going with tacky.

i've read some of the comments on various blogs about this and it generally goes like this:

1. some gets annoyed and says, "this is way tacky. do something real with the limited funds in this world."

2. someone else says, "if you don't want to donate then don't. i did because i wanted to. you should get off the soap box."

3. i get annoyed at #2 because i can't really imagine ANYONE truly thinking that this is okay.

i honestly think people in the number 2 category are trying to avoid their own conscience.

Capital T TACKY. With so many other causes that do need money why would I pay for someone elses 20k wedding? I'm not having a 20k wedding! After reading the comments left though it seems that the consensus is tacky.
