Do You Drink Your Milk Out of A Bag?

I do. Well, I used to when I lived with my family. You see, in some parts of Canada, including my province of Ontario, milk comes in bags, not jugs. We have cartons of milk but if you want to go 'family size', you'll have to resort to buying 'bags' of milk. Check out this article in the Toronto Star and the below video if you don't believe me. As noted in the Toronto Star article, bags take up less space, are easier to transport, use less plastic than jugs, and on average, milk in a bag actually costs less than the comparable amount of milk in a carton. Milk in a Bag - weird? Perhaps. Environmentally friendly and economically economically conscious? Totally, eh?! Happy Friday.

So we drink milk out of bags. Does that make us weird? - thestar.com

I wish I was Canadian so I could have milk in a bag and universal health care. I currently have a big honking carton in my fridge.

I also find that girl charming. I started watching all her videos after the milk bag demonstration!

It never occurred to me this was a little Canadian quirk!

Yes, we did that at home, my dad still does that. Now I don't, we're really not big milk drinkers and organic doesn't come in bags anyway... :-)

I saw this and didn't realize this was an Ontario thing lol. I thought it was quite common!

that's cool! i remember being a child and drinking juice out of bags in the philippines, so milk in a bag only makes sense.

OK I am speechless. I had absolutely no idea. Why have I been so clueless??? So brilliant!

Have a great weekend!

Oh my gosh - I miss milk in a bag! When I lived in Wisconsin, my school served milk in plastic pouches instead of in cartons. They looked like bean bags filled with milk! I loved them...and then I was sad when I moved and didn't get them anymore! I totally want milk bags back!!!!

Milk bags were invented in Canada! Right here, in Kingston, Ontario, by DuPont! :)

But you can also buy jugs at Mac's Milk, Beckers, and other corner stores in Canada.

I've always had milk out of bags. The milk stays fresher, too. (Is fresher" a word? I'm not sure.)
