Canadian Music Week March 11-15
Canadian Music Week `09 kicks off today. Over 500 artists will be performing over 5 days in 45 venues across Toronto. Pretty crazy! While most of the talent is homegrown and developing, there are some international heavy hitters performing as well, such as the Tings Tings and Bloc Party. If you have some time, go and check out some of the up and coming Canadian music talent. For more information, visit www.canadianmusicweek.com.

Style Me Pretty Features Toronto Wedding
I love when Style Me Pretty, Once Wed or any of the US based wedding inspiration sites feature Canadian weddings. This way, us Canucks, can discover local vendors and venues. If you haven't seen Andrea and Jesse's Toronto wedding over at Style Me Pretty, you must check it out! Andrea and Jesse were married at The Berkeley Church Field House, a favourite venue amongst Torontonians.
Cynthia Martyn Bridesmaids
Back in February I blogged about a new bridesmaids atelier being launched by Cynthia Martyn of Cynthia Martyn Events. The name of the store (originally to be Tulle) will now be called "Cynthia Martyn Bridesmaids." Cynthia, on her blog, is preparing for a June/July launch. Stay tuned for more details!
Vera Wang Trunk Show
I heart Vera Wang. I love (almost) every single one of her dresses. Her gowns are the perfect mix of romance, glamour and haute couture - which is why Vera Wang is synonymous with weddings. If you're lucky enough to make it to her trunk show this week in Toronto....please, please take me. ;)

What's in Name? Cont'd
I posted earlier about name change services. Krista from Canadian Bride has a follow up post about the name change process in Ontario, Canada here.
What's in a Name?
We all know what Juliet's answer was....that which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet. Very romantic, however, I wonder if she would have said that same thing if she knew the the amount of time and paperwork involved in changing her last name to Montague! Granted, back then, Juliet probably didn't have to change her driver's license, passport or any of her government identification. Nor did she have to notify all her credit card companies, banks, and insurance companies. Unfortunately, changing your maiden name is not quite as easy as it was in Shakespearean times. Most brides attempt the process themselves...filling out various forms, standing in long lines, spending countless hours on the phone or the Internet doing research. Don't have the time (or the patience)? Don't fret - here's when name change services can save the day!
1) I'm A Mrs - For Canadian Brides
Based in Vancouver, B.C., I'm A Mrs. describes itself as a 'one-stop shop for Canadian name change.' The service has all the standard forms for changing your name (e.g. government, credit cards, bank, utilities) as well as forms for loyalty programs (e.g. Aeroplan, Shoppers Optimum), department stores (e.g. The Bay, Sears), and fitness centres. Don't see a form you need in the I'm A Mrs. database? You can request the form and the service will provide the form (if it's available) within 1 to 2 business days. I'm A Mrs. has two packages: 1) Standard - access to all the government forms plus 3 forms of your choice, for CDN $29.95 + tax; 2) Premium - access to all the forms in their database for CDN $49.95 + tax. Frugal Fridays: DIY Wedding Bands
So you've picked out your venue, the photographer, the bridal party, your dress, the flowers. Now it's time to pick the other ring you'll be wearing for a lifetime. Do you want it to match your engagement ring? Do you want you and your fiancé/fiancée to have matching bands? Wait....do you even have budget for the wedding bands?!!?
I can only guess that band shopping is not for the fainthearted. After all, you both have to love the bands and that love could be pricey. This is where The Devil's Workshop steps in. Located on Queen Street West in Toronto, The Devil's Workshop offers jewelery making workshops, including a wedding band workshop. That's right, in one day, 6 hours to be exact, you and your better half can make from scratch your very own wedding bands!!! The workshop costs CDN $275 per couple, materials are additional. Silver starts at approximately $10 while yellow/white gold starts at approximately $150, depending on the size of the ring and the karat of gold chosen. You can also choose to set stones in your bands. Here are some wedding bands made at The Devil's Workshop:
I have to admit when I stumbled upon The Devil's Workshop, the thought of DIY wedding bands had me perplexed (probably because I'm so not artistic and don't trust myself near heavy machinery). However, on further thought, what a cool way to bond with your fiancé/fiancée, and your wedding bands will have such a great story behind them. What do you think? Would you consider making your own wedding bands?
The Devil's Workshop also offers other jewelery and silversmith workshops including metal printmaking, bead-working and wire-working . The Fused Glass Pendants workshop caught my eye. I might have to convince my friend Sheila to enroll with me. Look at this pretty pendant made at The Devil's Workshop.
If you're looking for something creative to do for a bridal shower or a girl's night out, book The Devil's Workshop for a Friday night of jewelery making. You can don the jewelery you made afterward when you paint the town red (or your bridesmaids can wear the bling on your big day)!
For more details on The Devil's Workshop, visit their website and their blog.
